All practice is art

posted on March 15, 2010

Pitched for a job recently involving another comic book, didn’t materialize in the end but I thought I would share some of the pitch samples. Went for a fairly traditional style as per request, not really my style of colouring either but good to try it out and the whole thing was good practice and a chance to blow off those comic book cobwebs. Always helps to be versatile!

Mad World

More stuff I’ve found under my hard drives cushions while I was spring cleaning, this was something I worked on with frequent collaborators Fluid Design for Sega’s Mad World. We needed a handful of sketched front cover concepts and as the game has a very specific look I couldn’t really stray too far so just lots black & white with blood and anger. Fun!

Los Asessinos Olvidados

posted on January 6, 2010

Thought I would share a few of the storyboards I did for a project called ´Los Asessinos Olvidados´which I think translates to ´The Forgotten Asassains´. A movie about 2 musicians who travel the country destroying the past, persued by the king of nostalgia, a living embodiment of the souveneir jacket! A spaghetti western without guns and a road movie without cars…
Here is just a few of the pages, I will try to put more up soon.

House Of The Dead: Overkill

posted on May 22, 2009

All the portfolios were broken so it forced me to finally upload some stuff in the promo & design section.
One of my favourite things to work on in the last year was a comic book and front cover illustration for Sega’s House Of The Dead: Overkill game. I collaborated with Fluid Design who provided the overall look and feel, all the design elements and even wrote and lettered the comic book! They did an amazing job, in my opinion, and you should go and check their website after you’ve had a mooch thru the stuff on Newtasty.

Holy moley, been nearly 2 months again since I updated… sheesh, how do you internet people do it? I plan on a big update to the portfolio section real soon, until then, to get myself back in the swing of things, here’s a drawing of my favourite robot M.I.L.O being all dramatic and Kirby-like with his perspective.

X-Men Social

posted on January 18, 2009

I’m loving this WordPress thing. Oooh, the possibilities are endless…
Here’s an old sketch I did to try out my Wacom when I first got it a couple of years ago. I used to love it in the X-Men comics when they would just go down the boozer, when I was young I thought that was so rock n’ roll… all other super heroes would spend their downtime in the lab, in the cave, brooding or what have you but the X-Men would either play baseball or just take off looking for some action in a pub. Well, they did in the 80s when I used to read it, they probably do something waaay more extreme now.

I found my sketchbook!

posted on January 17, 2009

Ah my old web sketchbook! Found it underneath my electronic bed, all covered in dust and old socks… oh whimsical illustration, how I have forsaken you for a life on the road with dames, booze chains and boots, aside from all the whoring of myself for big corps I haven’t picked up a pencil or a pen in nearly a year.I can start doodling again now, ooh that will be nice. Just need to figure out how to use this WordPress thing again now…
